So, as you already know from the header, I'm Fred. This is my website. I'm currently a student, studying Economics and Politics in the sunny UK. I love skiing. Berlin is my favourite city. Italians make the best food - or is it the Japanese? My hero is Steve Jobs. There, you officially know 7 more things about me than I do about you. To rectify this situation, you could always contact me (note: I'm not looking to invest in a African diamond mine / wire you $30,000).

history

For some reason I came to graphic design - and art in general - fairly late in the game. While I have always messed around with computers (read: geek), I only really got into design because I got a Mac. Fast forward a few summers and I moved to Berlin and got to experience commercial design and sharpen my creative suite skillz. I also got a bit interested in html etc. Now I'm at uni in England studying ~hard for god knows what. Uni is a good place to be for a designer, although I seem to accept way to many free projects. Moral of the story: pay me and we'll work together!

the site

I'm not sure what other designers experience with regard to their personal projects, but I always seem to be my own toughest client. While personal projects give you the ultimate freedom to do what you want, they also become incredibly frustrating as you can always see ways to improve upon the work you've just completed.

Anyhow, I digress; the point is that this site was originally meant to be my portfolio. As a lot of my web work was initially Flash-based, I endeavoured to build a Flash site to display my work/ramblings. However, as I was learning as I went along, the whole thing took up far too much time, and my (several) Flash portfolios never got to the completed stage.

I then decided to design and build a portfolio/blog in HTML/CSS with a LAMP backend. And that's what you're looking at right now. I'm already not happy with some of the site, but whatever. I'll do a redesign sometime in the next few months - hopefully this time I won't need to code the CMS from scratch!
